This is our “Sahara Express,” an intense and fast-paced journey designed for the traveler with very limited time but a huge spirit for adventure. This 2-day tour is the absolute quickest way to journey from Marrakech to Fes while still experiencing the essential, unforgettable magic of a night in the Sahara Desert.
Please be aware, this is a whirlwind adventure with very long driving days. It is a tour focused on reaching the destination, not on leisurely stops. Your journey will take you from Marrakech, across the Atlas Mountains, and deep into the Erg Chebbi dunes for the iconic sunset camel trek and a magical night in our luxury desert camp. The next day, you will travel north through the Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas, arriving in the ancient city of Fes in the evening.
This tour is a remarkable logistical feat, a testament to what is possible in just 48 hours. With your private guide and vehicle, it is the most efficient way to bridge Morocco’s two great cities and catch a breathtaking glimpse of the Sahara’s soul in between.
Approximate Driving Time: 9 Hours
Your Sahara express journey begins with a very early morning pickup (around 7:30 AM) from your accommodation in Marrakech. We have a long but spectacular day of driving ahead. Our route takes us up and over the magnificent High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with brief stops for panoramic photos.
As we descend from the mountains, we will make a special photo stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the Kasbah of Aït Ben Haddou. From here, you can capture stunning pictures of this incredible UNESCO World Heritage site, a fortified city famous as a filming location for epic movies and series like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
We will continue our journey east, passing through Ouarzazate and along the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs,” with a stop for lunch at a convenient location. The drive continues through the pre-desert landscapes, and as the afternoon progresses, you will see the first golden dunes of the Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon.
Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will immediately meet your camel caravan. You will embark on your unforgettable sunset camel trek across the dunes to our luxury desert camp. After settling into your private tent, a delicious Moroccan dinner will be served, followed by an evening of traditional Berber music around a campfire under the vast, starry sky.

An early wake-up is essential to witness the breathtaking beauty of a Sahara sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, you will have a short camel ride back to meet your driver, and our journey north to Fes begins promptly.
We will travel through the impressive Ziz Valley, with a short stop at a panoramic viewpoint to admire the vast oasis of palm groves. Our route then takes us up into the Middle Atlas Mountains. We will drive through the famous Cedar Forest near Azrou, making a brief stop to see the native Barbary apes.
After a lunch stop en route, our final stop before Fes is a quick break in the unique alpine-style town of Ifrane. We expect to arrive in the ancient city of Fes in the early evening, where your guide will drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your whirlwind cross-country adventure.
