For the traveler who loves the social energy of a group tour but desires a deeper, more relaxed journey, our Shared 4-Day Desert Tour is the perfect choice. This itinerary takes our most popular cross-country route from Fes to Marrakech and adds the most precious element of all: time.
The crucial difference is the full extra day dedicated to exploring the Sahara’s soul. While 3-day tours rush through, this more comfortable pace allows for a 4×4 off-road adventure to visit nomadic families, listen to spiritual Gnaoua music, and truly absorb the desert’s tranquility. You will still experience all the iconic highlights, from the cedar forests and the sunset camel trek to the magnificent High Atlas Mountains on your way to Marrakech.
We believe a shared adventure should still feel personal and comfortable. That’s why we guarantee a truly small group and provide the same high-quality accommodations as our private tours. You will have your own private room at the hotel and your own private tent with an ensuite bathroom in our luxury camp. It is, without question, the most comfortable, valuable, and enriching way to experience the Sahara as part of a small group adventure.
Approximate Driving Time: 7.5 Hours
Our adventure begins! We’ll meet up in Fes in the morning, get acquainted with our small group of fellow travelers, and settle into our comfortable minivan. Leaving the city behind, we journey south into the cool air of the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first stop is the charming town of Ifrane, a perfect spot for a morning coffee. Soon after, we’ll enter the Cedar Forest, where we’ll stop to say hello to the friendly wild Barbary apes.
After a group lunch in Midelt, the landscape transforms dramatically. We’ll make a stop at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the vast Ziz Valley, a sea of green palm trees that signals our approach to the desert.
In the late afternoon, we arrive in Merzouga, where our camel caravan awaits. Together, we’ll ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes, stopping at a high point for some fun sandboarding and to watch the spectacular sunset as a group. Our day ends at the luxury desert camp, sharing a delicious dinner and listening to Berber drumming lessons around a crackling campfire.
Accommodation: Luxury Oasis Camp
Approximate Driving Time: 1.3 Hours
Today is all about immersing ourselves in the desert’s culture and landscapes. After an optional sunrise and breakfast, we’ll hop into a 4×4 for a shared adventure. Our first stop is Khamlia village, where we’ll experience the powerful, spiritual sounds of Gnaoua music together.
From there, we’ll explore the desert’s rugged side, visiting the abandoned Galena mines of M’Fis before driving off-road to meet a nomadic family. Sharing tea in their tent is a humbling and authentic moment of connection.
In the afternoon, we’ll head to our Riad at the dune line. Here, you’ll have free time to relax by the pool, chat with your new friends, or take a quiet walk to the dunes for another beautiful sunset. For the thrill-seekers, this is the perfect time to arrange an optional ATV quad or buggy drive to explore the dunes. You also have the option to spend your second night back in the desert camp if you prefer.
Accommodation: Auberge Café du Sud or similar
Approximate Driving Time: 4 Hours
After breakfast, our journey west begins. We’ll make a stop in Rissani to explore the bustling traditional market (if it’s a market day), a great place to see local life in action. Our main destination is the magnificent Todra Gorge.
We’ll have plenty of time here for the whole group to take a peaceful walk along the river, dwarfed by the 300-meter-high canyon walls. It’s an incredible spot for group photos! The scenic drive continues through the “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” until we reach the spectacular Dades Gorge, where we’ll see the unique “Monkey Fingers” rock formations before settling into our hotel for dinner.
Accommodation: Hotel Babylon Dades or Similar
Approximate Driving Time: 6 Hours
On our final day together, we journey to Marrakech. We’ll travel along the Road of 1000 Kasbahs, making a photo stop in Ouarzazate at the famous Atlas Studios.
The main event is our guided visit of the Aït Ben Haddou Kasbah. Exploring this ancient UNESCO village as a group is a fantastic experience. You will walk the same streets where scenes from Gladiator, Game of Thrones, and The Mummy were filmed.
After our tour, we’ll begin our final, spectacular drive up and over the High Atlas Mountains. We’ll make several stops at panoramic viewpoints to capture the last of the incredible scenery together.
We expect to arrive in Marrakech in the afternoon, where we’ll say our goodbyes as your guide drops you off at your accommodation, concluding your shared Fes to Marrakech desert tour 4 days.
Our Shared 4-Day Desert Tour is our most comprehensive and comfortable small group adventure. It offers an incredible, in-depth experience at an exceptional value. While it costs more than a 3-day tour, the price reflects a full extra day of Sahara exploration and a more relaxed, enjoyable pace.
Price Per Person: €349
Why is this shared tour a superior value?
This is the single biggest advantage. Unlike shorter tours, this itinerary gives you a full, dedicated day to explore the desert’s soul. The included 4×4 excursion to visit nomadic families, listen to Gnaoua music, and discover hidden corners of the desert is an incredible, authentic experience that most shared tours simply do not offer.
By spreading the journey over four days, we eliminate any sense of being rushed. The driving days are shorter and more manageable, allowing you and your new friends more time to enjoy the scenic stops, explore the kasbahs, and arrive in Marrakech feeling enriched, not exhausted.
This tour offers the best of both worlds. You get the fun and camaraderie of traveling with a small group of like-minded adventurers during the day. At night, you get the comfort and privacy of your own private room at the hotels and your own private tent with an ensuite bathroom in our luxury desert camp.
This tour represents the smartest way to get a truly comprehensive and comfortable cross-country experience on a budget. You get all the benefits of a longer, more immersive itinerary, including the 4×4 tour, at an exceptional shared-tour value.
Your grand traverse from Fes culminates on the very first day with the ultimate desert experience. You will spend your first night at the Luxury Oasis Camp, a stunning encampment nestled in a quiet, secluded area of the Erg Chebbi dunes. After your long journey and a magical sunset camel trek, arriving at this lantern-lit haven is a truly unforgettable moment.
A key feature of our shared tour is that each booking receives its own private tent. You will not be sharing with strangers. You’ll enjoy a delicious Moroccan dinner, gather with your new friends around a campfire for an evening of traditional Berber music, and fall asleep to the profound silence of the Sahara.
After your magical night in the camp and a full day of desert exploration, your second night is all about comfort and relaxation. You will stay at the renowned Hôtel Café du Sud, an authentic hotel located right at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Each booking receives its own private room, providing a comfortable and personal space to unwind.
The highlight is the hotel’s famous swimming pool, offering the incredible experience of a refreshing dip while gazing directly at the towering golden dunes. It’s the perfect place to wash off the desert dust, relax your muscles, and enjoy a final, spectacular Sahara sunset from the comfort of the hotel’s terrace before enjoying a delicious dinner.
As our journey continues west, your third night is spent nestled in the heart of the stunning Dades Valley at the Hotel Babylon Dades. This charming, family-run hotel is a welcome sight after a day of exploring gorges and kasbahs. Each booking receives its own private room, ensuring a peaceful and comfortable night’s rest.
We love this hotel for its authentic Berber hospitality and its incredible panoramic views of the valley’s unique rock formations from its terraces. A delicious, multi-course, home-cooked Moroccan dinner is served in the evening, providing a warm and authentic stop on your final night before reaching Marrakech.
The primary advantage is the full day of desert exploration on Day 2. This allows for a much deeper and more authentic Sahara experience, including a 4×4 adventure to visit nomads and listen to Gnaoua music, highlights that are missed on the shorter tour. It’s a more relaxed and immersive journey.
Yes! For an extra thrill, you can rent ATV quads or buggies during your free time in the desert on Day 2. This is an optional activity with an extra cost. Just let your guide know you’re interested, and they will be happy to help you arrange it with a trusted local operator.
Yes, absolutely! While our standard shared tour itinerary includes the exciting 4×4 Desert Discovery Tour on Day 2, we are happy to offer the Full-Day Nomadic Camel Trek as an alternative for those seeking a more traditional and peaceful experience.
This option involves a full day of trekking to a secluded oasis for a Berber pizza lunch cooked in the sand. To ensure we can make the perfect arrangements for you, this special request must be made at the time of booking.
Booking is easy. We require a small deposit to confirm your tour, which can be paid securely online with a credit card or via PayPal. The final balance is due on the first day of your tour and can be paid in cash (Euros, USD, or Dirhams) directly to your guide.
